ZZ Top's "Francine" is about a man's love for his girlfriend, who just turned 13.
And they did Mexican Blackbird which was basically a song about recommending a prostitute.
And La Grange is about a brothel
Yes, although somehow the generalised notion of a brothel seems somehow less upsetting than recommending a specific prostitute.
Paying for sex is a slightly disturbing recurring theme for early ZZ Top. Presumably they didn't always have rock star grade allure.

Or writing a song about your 13 year old girlfriend. :s Tbh most of the Top's lyrics are pretty sleazy, they just learned to make them a bit more discrete over the years.

10CC's  Dreadlock Holiday treads a thin line between parody and offensive.

Not as bad as Typically Tropical's "Barbados", which was offensive both lyrically and musically.

"He's my Best Friend" by Jellyfish is about his todger

I've known him all my life
    It seems so inconceivable
At thirteen we shook hands but we've
    Been always inseparable

He's cinnamon on my toast we're so
    Close

That's not to say we haven't had our
    Share of arguments
    He's so unpredictable he winks
    Acknowledgments
When I would rather he closed his eye
    Than push me aside

My hand's a five leaf clover
It's palm sunday over and over
I never had the luck of swingers
Till I was wrapped around your finger

  • Surprised this one hasn't cropped up yet.... Rock Queen by Love/Hate.
Great track from the Blackout In The Red Room album, but the lyrics are pure Gary Glitter....

    I got my wine
    Get out of my way
Got a chip on my shoulder
    Had a real bad day
    Met a little girl
    Just thirteen
    She's a knock-down blue-eyed slut psycho-virgin tease
Rock queen, thirteen, buxom blonde, bad dream
Let me touch your cookies-let me eat yoru cookies-now
    Got some time
    Won't go wrong
    Sittin' on the sidewalk
    Singing songs
    Take my baby home
    On the scene
    Turns out she's a koochie-koochie-koochie
Rock queen, thirteen, buxom blonde, bad dream
Let me touch your cookies-let me eat your cookies
Rock queen, thirteen, buxom blond, bad dream
Let me touch your cookies-let me eat your cookies-now

And gave us the Venga Boys with We're Going to Ibiza. It's without redemption.

  • I'm also surprised that mainstream media haven't picked up on EMF's Unbelievable.

All through the song there is a sample of someone shouting "What the fuck was that", yet it still gets used all the time for daytime tv, kids programmes etc.

There are a huge number of mainstream pop records now with swearing blanked out, often not very effectively. The most obvious is probably Jax Jones' 'You Don't Know Me' where Raye clearly sings 'fuck yeah' several times, even though the bulk of the word is edited out.

There's Britney Spears' "If You Seek Amy" (say it fast if you're not familiar with it) which somehow bypassed all the radio censors as well...

Well, Wikipedia says he claimed in an interview that the song was written about his then-wife, Marcia, but he needed a three-syllable name to make the melody work, at which point he was inspired by JFK's daughter Caroline.

But then he's also said that it was inspired by seeing a photo of her on a horse as a young child, and that the rest of the song took about five years to come together.

I don't know. Does he protest too much?

    Lucille Bogan 1935, utter filth.

I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
I got somethin' between my legs'll make a dead man come
Oh daddy, baby won't you shave 'em dry?
    Now, draw it out!

Want you to grind me baby, grind me until I cry
Say I fucked all night, and all the night before baby
And I feel just like I wanna, fuck some more
    Oh great God daddy

Grind me honey and shave me dry
And when you hear me holler baby, want you to shave it dry
I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
Daddy you say that's the kind of 'em you want, and you can make 'em come
    Oh, daddy shave me dry

And I'll give you somethin' baby, swear it'll make you cry
I'm gon' turn back my mattress, and let you oil my springs
I want you to grind me daddy, 'til the bell do ring
Oh daddy, want you to shave 'em dry

Oh great God daddy, if you can't shave 'em baby won't you try?
Now if fuckin' was the thing, that would take me to heaven
I'd be fuckin' in the studio, till the clock strike eleven
Oh daddy, daddy shave 'em dry

I would fuck you baby, honey I'd make you cry
Now your nuts hang down like a damn bell sapper
And your dick stands up like a steeple
Your goddam ass-hole stands open like a church door

And the crabs walks in like people
    Ow, shit!
Ooh! Baby, won't you shave 'em dry
A big sow gets fat from eatin' corn
And a pig gets fat from suckin'

Reason you see this whore, fat like I am
Great God, I got fat from fuckin'
    Eeeeh! Shave 'em dry

My back is made of whalebone
And my cock is made of brass
And my fuckin' is made for workin' men's two dollars
Great God, round to kiss my ass
Oh! Whoo, daddy, shave 'em dry
holy shit.. when I saw those lyrics first thing I thought of was Steel Panther.. lmao

Or just can't remember, it was a long time ago and he's written a lot of songs.

My feeling is that he's a professional songwriter more concerned with how words work together as a song than with much deeper meaning to them, but I could be wrong.
