I love everything about St Vincent, from music to attitude to style and on - but I do think a lot of the links here so far have been showing her at her most arty and aggressive. These show off some more of her range, she can write a great straight-forward song when she wants to.

Also I think a lot of negative comments here are less about her per se, than about indie or alt rock in general. Some things that have been held up as issues that people have with her music would apply just as well to Pavement or Sonic Youth (as was mentioned) or many others. It feels like some more traditionalist types (not that there's anything wrong with that!) trying and failing to see what the artsy crowd get out of this area of guitar music.

  • @A_T_W ...If you edit a post with YouTube links in it, they turn into pictures which can't be clicked. You'll need to add the links again I'm afraid

If I were called St Vincent, I would totally name my band 'The Grenadines'

All the - sadly - predictable dumb comments deleted because they weren't worth my time splitting them into a separate BCD discussion.

    Talk about the music here.

    Talk about other aspects elsewhere.
@TTony , shouldn't it be talk about the gear here?  Talk about the actual music and performance in elsewhere?  >:(

I have to agree here. I think Annie Clarke is fantastic, guitar-wise she's definitely in the arch art school realm, though she did study guitar at music college so as a player no slouch by any means. I love her style and her need to reinvent: she's a huge Bowie fan, which shows (in a good way), and she can write a cracking straight down the line "traditional" song when called for. "New York" is painfully beautiful.

    Definitely a St Vincent fan.

  • An artist I want to like but as yet don't. It all feels a bit contrived and trying too hard to be odd. Can't help feel she is one that you might get if you see a live show.
