Shoelace wrapped around the spindle. Gentley pull up either side. Sorted.

Feeler gauge with cloth underneath and lightly rock until the knob comes loose. Actually, now I’ve read that comment back, it sounds kinda pornagraphic! It’s does work, though!

A spudger or the blanking plate off a computer PCI slot (rest it on a cloth or hanky so you don't scratch the guitar surface.

I live in the country so we use baler twine, works a treat :)
My preferred approach is my Father's:
    1. Hit it with a hammer.

      If that doesn't work...

    2. Hit it with a bigger hammer.
Only if it breaks would we need baler twine to tie it back together.
Is your dad from yorkshire?  Sounds a lot like the age old craftsman skills handed to me by my father...
Yes! How could you tell? :)

Thanks guys - all done. I found a thin plastic ruler that, with a soft cloth to avoid scratching, I placed under the knob, & turned it carefully until it released. Put on my foam 'donut' and my volume knob now has a bit more resistance sufficient to stop it turning when I don't want it to.

Had to be very careful about my wording here - if I'd have said I managed to pull my knob off and now its stiffer, goodness knows the posts that would follow!    tonguegif biggringif

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)
