Scon. But I’d prefer a Welsh Cake with my tea.
Scon but probably this, the Welsh cake is a much overlooked treat.

  • My Grandparents were both Cornish, and it was definitely scon.
...But then they also called me ‘my cock’, much to my dismay.

I am another Southerner and I would like to point out to non-Southerners that not all Southerners are unable to countenance a word having two (or more) correct pronunciations.

Pronunciations and spelling mean nothing. This is Cornwall were talking about.

It's definitely a scone, if it was a scon, it wouldn't have an 'e' on the end of it.
Scone is pronounced like "gone", which is what they pretty soon are after they've got a bit of jam & cream on!

Tone, which we all know about, with an S on the front, doesn't make "ston". It's a very similar word to (s)cone in phonetics so scone very much for me, none of that scon oddity

And I'm a devonshire cream tea, cream before jam, not cornish which is jam before cream. Mind you, the missus prefers cornish style

Send for the opinion of that affected wanker ....the "etiquette expert " William Hanson who makes a regular wally of himself writing for Daily Mail .
    I bet he says SCON
I actually do think its a class and education thing .........Scon is probably the Public School version
    Belvoir or Beevor
    Cholmondeley or Chumly
    Auction or Oction
    etc etc etc etc

No one here says “scone”, everyone says “scon”.  I don’t think I have ever heard a Northern Irish person say “scone”, unless they are affecting it, or mega posh, and I don’t know any posh people.

I've heard posh people say "scoan", but I'm not suggesting they all do.

This is one issue which seems to divide all sectors of British society pretty equally.

However its irrelevant as its a sh1t dry cake, and jam and cream are for ladies : )
