I wondered if you'd snagged the pickguard! Great result all round.

Finally located the serial number. It was situated, as @ICBM suggested, by the treble side F hole. Numbered R9724-13, which makes it a 1960 model. @JDE very kindly sent me a wooden bridge fitting, so I'm just waiting on arrival of some flatwounds, pickguard and a nickel tailpiece to put the whole thing together. Have to say I'm loving this guitar, play it 99% unplugged and it sounds so sweet. If I'm not very careful this could open up whole new vistas of gas. I'm presently down-tuning by a full tone to be able to get the bends I'm used to but hoping finger strength will increase over time or maybe I should adjust my technique.

Bridge and flats finally arrived, all assembled -

It intonates quite well, the only string which is out on my tuner is the 3rd in spite of going to the trouble of installing a wound string. Could it be they make wooden bridges adjusted for plain strings? Either way it's not a problem as chords played at the 10th fret still sound sweet.
