one of the things I like about the UK (being German originally) is that not everything shuts down on a Sunday and you can get things done you wouldn't have time for during the week ...
Which is one of the things I hate about the uk, but love about switzerland. Sunday opening should never have been allowed.
I could see the change it made. Spent the weekends mtb'ing, and Sunday's were heaven going up the local high street as I headed for the hills. That was before the Govt opened the can of worms. Over a period of mere weeks, it definitely changed and the peace and quiet I/we so treasured had evaporated.

    Postcards.

You'd go on holiday, send everyone a postcard on the last day and they'd get it a week after you came home.

You can still buy them, but nobody sends them.

The photos on the postcards weren't even current, and were obviously taken in 1953.

Now you're mates can see you eating tapas in real time. Whats the point of that?

When I was young (60s/70s) there were many more smokers and even in the villages the roadside grass was littered with discarded cigarette packets. The buses, pubs, anywhere really stank of stale tabacco.
There were also a larger portion of disabled servicemen to be seen daily about towns as they struggled about on wooden crutches etc.
Dogpoo was more common (including the white stuff) indeed the 'cartoon banana skin' is a polite way of displaying the poo / slip moment, it was certainly more common than now fortunately.
Children playing in the street and inventing games/scenarios.
Large industrial towns, not many left now, once upon a time a few large employers took pretty much all the schools output as apprentices and gave them jobs for life. Now people live miles from work and commute meaning many homes have multiple cars and creating the on street car parking mess we see all the time now.
Easy to mourne the changes but on probability our general health and standard of living is way better than it was say 40 years ago.

It wasn’t that long ago that you could smoke on the tube in London. Seems absolutely crazy now.

Apart from Maplins I see all of those ( albeit far fewer music shops these days). Perhaps I live in a bubble with the only cafes left.

Well, we’re certainly not a many as we once was (I work for hmv). There used to be a few local in my area, I survived the Ilford closure, then Beckton and latest to go is Stratford where I imagine rent was way too high.

Yellow film in shop windows to stop window displays from fading in the sun.

Although recently saw a shop in Shetland that still had yellow film in the window, strange as it's seldom sunny in Shetland.
