Jeri Ryan was interviewed and revealed she's a bad-ass freedom fighter who doesn't like Picard very much. She has a Borg sidekick.

could you add “contatins spoilers” in the thread title?

OK but they are official spoilers as sanctioned by the studio.

I really like what he says about bringing characters back - as in they won't, unless the story can't be told without them. I suspect that this is what's going to set it apart from, say, the new Star Wars films (where they decided they wanted to bring legacy characters back, and tried - badly - to invent subplots around their presence).

It's incredibly rare that a series opener like this manages to hit all the right notes, but somehow I think they've managed it here; the only thing that felt a bit weird was for a Romulan to have an Irish accent. Even then, though, I can totally forgive it because...well, Orla Brady.

I've just watched the first episode.

Blimey, that was really bloody good!

I honestly wasn't expecting much but that first episode is a cracker. If the rest of them live up to this first one then it's going to be a hell of a good series. Stuart has still got his chops.

    Excellent first episode.

Painful to see Picard explaining to someone from the Federation that lives are lives, and that Starfleet has lost it's way, but the show has to reflect our times.

Maybe we need Picard as much as Starfleet does?

TNG was the most successful Star Trek series, which is why they spent millions remastering it for Blu Ray.  So I'm not surprised that they're trying to recapture some of that magic.   I'm concerned that it will be a bit of a let down because I liked pretty much the entire TNG ensemble and can't imagine JLP without the rest of them.
    Especially Deanna Troi

I used to love her when I was a lad, lots of confusing feelings when it first aired...
I’ve met her (and not at a Trek convention).

Enjoyed that. Even Mrs L enjoyed it. Very strong opening, hope it continues with the integrity.

She seems like a lovely person, though again I grew up on TNG, so I'm preconditioned to like her!

I think that's what got me, when Picard tells the reporter "Because it wasn't Starfleet any more" that's classic Picard.

She does seem really lovey. Very open, kind and down to earth. And that’s from someone who never liked her character on TNG.

    Ex-Romulan security officers who defected.

Yes, I enjoyed it too... The only thing I have to complain about is they didn't do a double episode to start with which I think they should always do with a new series.. So, looking forward to more...

Just came across this little spoiler on YouTube  :)
