  • Another vote for the Pearl Jam one here. It's bloody marvellous. I am very keen on the 10,000 Maniacs one as well.

Clapton unplugged is one of (if not my) favourite albums of all time. It’s virtually perfect.

John Mellencamp was one of my favourites around the Unplugged heyday. Grissom and the lovely Lisa Germarno in the band too.

I've never watched any (other than the odd song) But it was a very cool idea indeed.

  • If anyone watched TPS this week there is the story that Clapton’s Unplugged saved the Martin guitar  company ( Chris Martin story via Mick Taylor).
Not sure I’ve ever watched one all the way through. I’m amazed at how many there were:

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

The Clapton version of Layla unplugged is incredible. The chops to revise such an iconic song in that way takes talent.

Nirvana were unreal though. It’s one of my favourite albums of all time and even better when you watch it. Kurt’s vocals are powerful and he’s so relaxed. Great covers, great workings of their songs and the Meat Puppets section is brilliant.
