Whiplash (the film)

What's Hot
My boss handed me a copy of this film a few weeks ago and I finally managed to see it last night (also noticed that this is on Netflix). All I can say is wow! Probably not one for the non-music lover but I found it gripping from start to finish - highly recommended!

JK Simmons makes a really good psychopath. I love him in Counterpart. Has that hit the UK yet? It's *SO* good

If any teacher in the music college I went to had treated any of the students like that, he'd of either got a disciplinary warning from the head of school, or we, the students would have fucked him up using verbal abuse and fists.

    Totally unrealistic to me....

  • I'm not sure if it's out in the UK yet, but I've seen it. He's fantastic in that. Just from his body language, you can tell what version of himself he's playing.

Yes - He's brilliant in both.

I highly recommend "Oz" by HBO - his niche for psychopath roles began there...

Amazingly, not as interesting a premise as Whiplash; which is set in New York, based on some of the director's (a drummer) experiences and Fictional. Just as Star Wars is also fictional, Whiplash is a million times more believable and yet made far less money, it's almost as if moviegoers deliberately ignore lack of realism in choosing what to watch! :)

Or... children are more interested and engaged by Space fantasy films that a film about learning drums lol
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

Learning drums? Surely you just sit there and hit stuff at random?

    Brilliant film.

I think its all about attitude.. As in what it takes to be the best.. And at the top level while I would hope to think no teacher would ever be that extreme I think its meant to give an idea of just how good and dedicated you have to be to peform at that level.

Not exactly 50 shades but I suppose could represent the pleasure/pain relationship when trying to master an instrument :-)

Great film.  I like the way it has the excitement and intensity of a thriller, without anyone getting murdered.
