They used to do these ones in the 90s...
And an earlier version with a Jazzmaster-style headstock which I had one of - still the best hybrid I've played. Lace Sensor at the neck, piezo under the bridge and just the controls you can see - volume, tone and blend.
And then these, which is just such a half-arsed-looking thing - they clearly couldn't even be bothered to make a proper body for it, just covered over the bridge pickup hole... and the 'acoustic' controls are in the side directly above it (you can just see the tops of the controls).
You're thinking of the Chinese-made plastic-backed Telecoustic and Stratacoustic, and yes they were!
Not to be confused with (are you yet?!) the Acoustasonic Strat, which is one of these, with a much more futuristic body...

I bought one , and it was a poor acoustic guitar and not much better as an electric , looked pretty cool with the pointy headstock though .

But as for the concept, I think these Fender's sound fab. I bet they sell shitloads to big American churches.
