So with the news that Gilmour is selling both the black one and the white #1 one, that got me wondering what the most valuable guitar would be, if every famous guitar was lined up and sold on the same day.
Off the top of my head the following seem obvious candidates
Micawber
SRV's #1
Black (again?)
Gilmour's black one
Gilmour's white one
EVH's original frankenstein
Page's #2
Brian May's Red Special
McCartney's #1 Hofner
Lennon's Casino
Buddy Holly's Strat
Springsteen's Esquire
Various Hendrix guitars... He played so many though that I'm not sure any specific one would be at the top of the tree. I've not included
What do you think? Have I missed anything obvious?

Ha. Or the brass balls on anyone who approached Clapton for help proving provenance.
There's the Peter Green / Gary Moore / Kirk Hammett 'burst. Although it probably depreciates every day it's with Kirk.
Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.
Yes this one.. I do remember reading rumours that he paid 2 million for it.. But it was just a rumour...
I would say that Gilmours 55 Goldtop by rights should go for some serious cash as demonstrated in this vid (go to 4:22) and not just because of the music he played on it, but the fact its a nice early example of a LP.

For those on a budget, Steve Vai's Evo and his old Charvel Green Meanie.
Or Michael Schenker's black and white '70s Flying Vs.
