Lunar Module is very much a Fuzz Face, with part of some Coloursound drive stage added in. It's far from being a Muff.

Yup- Skreddy used the 'Time' solo as the basis for this pedal, which was Coloursound (gain at 7) into a Fuzzface (everything turned to 10, then some judicious gating).

Just get a Sunface. If you don't get all the extras they are very good value for money and are simply the best fuzz face types out there. Just picked up my 4th one after trying just about everything else in this realm.

    They are very fussy though.
I love them- I have one myself but it is a PITA to use live.

You could get the Suhr Rufus or Wampler Velvet - easy to get to sound good if a little  “my first fuzz pedal”.

    I've had both of those.

Velvet is good but again I thought it was muff derived, is quite expensive and it's a bit too fat even in tight mode.

The Rufus I thought was quite poor. I like Suhr stuff, but that left me cold.

I would consider these on the fussy and expensive list.

    Behringer Super Fuzz.

(Boss FZ-2 copy, which itself is a Univox Superfuzz/Shin-Ei FY-6 copy with added EQ and clean boost mode.)

Fully buffered, not fussy, versatile, sounds great and is about £24 new.

Correction - currently £17 new at GAK and Gear4Music!

This isn’t a joke by the way. It’s a great pedal - I use mine at every gig, although admittedly on bass.

  • My most favourite (and very recent) fuzz is the Catalinbread Karma Suture Germanium. It's based on a harmonic perculator but has blend of transistors on one knob and useful "fat" control too. It's not very high gain but is incredibly versatile.

It's less fizzy and looser than a SI fuzzface
    Not scooped sounding either.

A lunar module will do the best fuzz lead tone period.
The KS can do a bit of that and also some great characterful rhythm tones with the volume knob turned down.

  • Fender Pelt.
Certainly on paper the pedal that most fits the brief here.

    Good call.

Are either of the TC fuzz pedals based on this?

No idea, but I'd trust Behringer reliability over TC anyway!

The plastic casing seems robust enough too.

I'll admit it has one flaw - the jacks aren't very 'positive' and it's easy to pull the plugs out by accident - not a problem on a pedalboard, but a nuisance as a stand-alone pedal. I solved the problem by using cables with right-angle plugs at the pedal - the idea was to put an elastic band round the whole thing to hold them in, but in the event just having them right-angled was enough.

  • A rat pedal?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

  • I'm after something similar. I was set on the Orange Fur Coat, but I've been watching demos of the Black Moon and White atom, they sound seriously good.

  • I was going to suggest an EQD Spires but one of the sides is probably a bit fussy about where you put it in the chain.

Its cheating but what about an EQD Hoof Reaper? Yes the hoof part is muffy but it does a lot more...

+1 It's outlived quiet a few other fuzzes on my board.
