Other Hobbies - do you spend as much as on guitar gear

I'm gradually upgrading my brewing gear (and building a workshop extension to put it in) and find I'm spending more on that than guitar gear of late. Stainless steel tends to get expensive.

I must admit though that since my old band folded (actually I pulled the plug on it) I've not had much motivation to buy gear, opting to trade rather than buy.

I do limit my spending on windsurfing gear as.im not getting the most out of it now I don't sail in winter like I used to.

Fits and starts, Woodworking as a hobby can involve some expensive hand tools and even move expensive machines. Like 'guitarering' it can be done quite adequately on a budget, but shiney and expensive can be tempting and likewise way beyond my skill level.

Cameras and lenses make the guitars I own look like pound shop treats.

    Magic.

It's not only a hobby as I get paid for shows, but I treat it as a paid hobby rather than a 2nd job.

Books, props, DVDs etc. I love it!

Nowhere near as much as guitars, but I spend a lot on Blu-rays.

And actually I haven't bought so many guitars the last two or three years, so maybe I do spend more on Blu-rays.

I was really into magic for a couple of years - like anything, practice is much more important than gear but my god some of it is cool (especially as you never quite know what you'll get when ordering!)

Photography for me. I love it - I don't have horribly expensive gear but it's far from cheap.

I’ve stopped gassing for photo gear at the moment, but by god it’s a real money pit.

Now that I can no longer play, all the money I would've spent on guitar gear goes on food and shelter.

Well my hobby (shagging) used to be cheap (the odd meal here and there), however it ended up with two kids so probably the most expensive hobby ever.
Saying that I used to do a lot of trackdays and hill climbs in my old Lotus Elise. Now that was an expensive hobby (£500 a weekend just in tires)

Hi res audio is a waste of money, anything above CD quality is imperceptible to humans.

That's not true, I have definitely heard some Hi Res tracks. Unless I imagined them of course!

Anyway, hill walking costs loads in coats, boots, waterpoof things etc. between me, the missus and the nipper I will have spent a pretty penny.

My other hobby is hi fi and that is just frightening chasing that elusive perfect system.

Nope, golf clubs are an expensive investment but once they are bought its just some balls and tees occasionally

Bicycles can be as expensive as you want them to be.
I also enjoy a bit of DIY and spent about £5k last year re-landscaping our back garden, as well as a few hundred quid putting a ceiling in the garage and tiling part of it to use one side as a utility room.
Currently leveling the kitchen floor in preparation for tiling it myself and after that putting a wall mounted toilet, new sink, and tiling the downstairs look will cost about £650 I would have thought

I just bought a new camera... I’m not a total gearhead like many on the photography forums, but it’s gets expensive if you let it.

But im also looking at a second amp build, which is expensive if you’re buying kits

I do spend quite a bit on camera gear. More than guitar stuff probably.

As mentioned on the recent GAS thread, my other hobbies are cooking, running, kayaking and occasional cycling.  I don't spend anything like as much on those as I do on guitar stuff.  Other people will happily buy by stuff for those hobbies as presents though, fortunately nobody attempts to get me guitar stuff as it would very probably be not to my tastes.

When I used to do a lot of Cross Country and Downhill Mountain biking I spent serious money on bikes and upgrades but work and a recurring knee injury put paid to that and my waistline

I also do trackdays (no hillclimbs though) in an Elise and the costs do add up. However, my tyres last much longer than a weekend (not trying hard enough perhaps?) and the Elise is much lighter on consumables (disks, pads, fuel, tyres) than the Mk3 MX5 I had before that. The fact that it breaks down rather a lot which limits the number of trackdays I can do also helps keep costs in check ;)
