If you want old school heavy, then I suggest a band called ‘Stray’.
Yes, I was into Stray when in my teens.  I have all their LPs and the debut "Stray" is very good, but "Suicide" their second is much better.  Sadly they went downhill from there.

My oldest son listens to brain crunching metal, too much noise for me in my old age. One band of his I do like though is five finger Death Punch, they are more melodic than a lot of heavy bands.

I saw FFDP supporting Lamb Of God - that was a great gig!

I've seen Opeth too, supporting Dream Theater.

    Slipknot (seen them too).

If you like Dio (saw him in Rainbow/Dio/Sabbath), then Astral Doors are worth a listen.

    Bellycaster wins.
    Holy Terror - Mind Wars

An Album I almost wore out to see-through in the late 1980's

    Most notably the songs:

    Immoral Wasteland
    A Fools Gold/ Terminal Humour/Mind Wars
    Damned by Judges
    No Resurrection

The whole album is only 39 mins long, it'll take you on a ride. The Album is on Youtube.

Keith Deen, sure had a powerful voice. Sadly he died in 2012 aged 56.

My dad toured Saudi and South Africa with Demis in the 80's - he took his Strat and Fender Twin so not sure it was that heavy musically - the Twin on the other hand weighed a ton!

Most sensible recommendations have already been mentioned; but I would add To-Mera, Prospekt and Freak Kitchen to the list. All are different and do “heavy” musically.

Opeth, Blackwater Park. Easily their best album.

    Godsized are great too.

Did Demis Rousoss not play the guitar on that Aphrodites Child four horseman track?
