So why do I *want* this

Surprisingly, 4.5 out of 5.

Need to wait for the launch price to get discounted.

The PRS SE line are actually possible to sell used, unlike normal PRS

I know what you mean! The only thing keeping me safe is knowing that I won't like the glossy neck or the pickups.

Having just purchased my first PRS of any kind (S2 Standard 22), I say go for it. I'm loving mine at the moment, and I might even add a used SE to the collection.

I’m no PRS fan, never seen one I liked the look of. But, recently played a friend SE Soapbar, and it had a very nice neck.......

Know the feeling. Having just bought a proper MIJ Jem, I now have an irrational hankering for an RG550 genesis in neon purple.

A friend of mine just bought one. He says it's actually easier to get a 'proper Les Paul tone' out of than his proper Les Paul... as well as a Tele bridge pickup tone as good as his USA Tele. I haven't seen it yet but I'm expecting it to be very nice.

PRS are on the way out. Recently went on a Guitar Course. Amongst the 24 gathered together, there were 3 Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2 Dentists, and a Deputy High Court Judge..... not one single PRS in sight. :)

It's a nice touch that it has the USA bridge, that's an expensive item in itself although I have no idea if the little brass inserts make any difference.

It looks great.  I dislike the mini-switches but that's just a personal phobia.

No... it's an item they *charge* a lot for if you want to buy one. Not quite the same thing ;).

I actually spent more time than I'd have liked  at dental school last year.  UCLH.

    It was ouchy.

Once the prices settle, I'm tempted to *buy* one.  If I tried to make something similar, it would only ever be similar and probably cost more in parts than a proper one would.

    Indeed.

The SE prices seem to be heading ever upwards, but they're also adding some more bits and pieces to the SE range to justify that increasing cost.  Adds to the temptation!

Very true!  But it's an upgrade on the standard SE bridge and there's no way of getting hold of one cheap, overpriced or not, so I think it's a selling point.

I've bought PRS spares, in the full knowledge they're stupidly overpriced and there are much cheaper things on the market which would do the same job.  Maybe even the same things, without the PRS branding.  But I wanted the "right" parts.  Buying guitar stuff isn't necessarily a rational process.

Substitute 'just bought a proper MIJ Jem' with 'still enjoying my MIK RG450' and this is me. And I've never liked Les Paul's. Why do we desire these things - just because they're different?
Edit: Hmm... Misread RG550 as SC550. What a pillock. :)
