Anything by Pantera should suffice surely?

Tomorrow will be a good day.

I've plenty of stuff heavier than Heartwork by Carcass, but there's something about that production and the riffs that for me define heavy. Yes there are plenty of bands playing faster and banging away at eight-strings, but for me that doesn't always mean heavy - sometimes it's too transitory due to the fast pace to have real impact.

Of course like everything else heavy and in any style of metal, Sabbath were there first. The kings.

Yep - that was their heaviest riff.

    The other one was.

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

  • Really just posting this as some people might enjoy it as much as me & I think it deserves to be better known. I don't even know (or care) what category of music this is.
Like most things in this thread I'd guess laptop speakers are no good for this.

  • This is the first song that popped into my head:

Absolutely brutal and not a guitar in sight.

Some of the lyrics in that song are some of the funniest lyrics I've heard in any song.

    Probably unintentional.

"Ride the snake, ride the snake
    To the lake
    The ancient lake
    Baby

The snake is long, seven miles
    Ride the snake
    He's old
    And his skin is cold

    The west is the best
    The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest"

These lyrics always make me laugh when I hear the song.

When I was still a schoolboy (many, many years ago) this was the definition of heavy for me. Playing this though my dad's homemade speakers with massive bass drivers could make the sitting room window vibrate. You could feel the bass in the pit of your stomach. Plus, it's an absolute killer cover.

    Heeeaavvvy....... maaaan.

I do like it, both for what it is as a song and as a cultural moment. Best appreciated with some dope and Martin Sheen.

I always find this song quite heavy in a way, partly because I would have loved to hear more of Dylan Carlson recording with Kurt as a side project to Earth/Nirvana.

Sunn 0))) were the first band that sprung to mind - certainly by all accounts you don't listen to Sunn 0))) you feel them - via the vibrations in the room - it's incredibly loud and heavy and super slow - there's something about them tho...
