I still think Pantera win the award for the heaviest 'band'...purely because of how they all interact with each other, especially the 'space' between the guitar riffs and the way the drums fit.


I remember learning a lot as a kid about how less is more with some riffs....creating space in a riff can give that groove that feels right.

Agreed re: Converge as well. Although they are more, IMO, like a chaotic punk heavy...I love it.

I know what you mean, they had a groove and raunchyness that put them apart from other metal bands, maybe it came from the texan blues thang?
