If only Yamaha would get their act together and reintroduce the SG line with the original specs. They seem to regularly circle around the idea but totally miss the target ( SG1820 etc ). I am sure there would be a market for them and it would piss off one unscrupulous nutter ( he of the multiple identities and mucho BS ). As it is I'm glad I've still got my SG2000 and SG3000, absolutely lovely guitars, and ,thankfully , they didn't cost me silly money.
I’ve said this before but the romance of the SG2000 soon goes out the window when most people who have fond memories of them pick them up. Plus, with Japanese labour costs as they are, to make something so intricate to the same specs you would be looking at close to £5k now. Maybe one day.
You're right, I've always loved the look but I can't get past the weight issue.  But I agree with @artiebear too, the SG1820 etc with their more traditional (i.e. Les Paul like) construction and generic hardware and electronics seem to miss the point.  Part of the appeal of the SG line (and other Japanese guitars of that era, like Ibanez Artists) is the intricate construction, the ebony boards, the proprietary hardware.

I wonder if there'd be a market for reissues of the SG600, 700, 800 etc?  Yes, use standard Gotoh hardware etc, but get close to the proper look and sell them at a much lower price than the SG1820.

    Tbh, want a Yamaha SG2000?
    Buy one.

That’s a blatant copy of someone else’s ip. A fake.

    No excitement here

  • That's quite nice, but I'd rather have the real thing. I'm a bit funny like that.

  • No.

    No.

    NO.

It’ll be as crap as the rest of their guitars.

Just buy the real thing, FFS.

  • Difficult to judge without actually trying one in person.

Whilst it is nice that somebody has done a McGeoch tribute guitar, the truth is that the unique selling point was McGeoch's talent and not in the outward appearance of the guitars he played.

I paid £565 for my SG2000s in 1987 and had to order it... list was £960 ish then.

Well, since this thread has turned into "show your SGs", it would be churlish not to join in ...
