Blazing Saddles.
Naked Gun (almost the same movie I know)
Carry On Up The Khyber
I think why I can return to them is that the writing is so packed, there's no filler. They all play with racial and other stereotypes as well but rarely fall foul of modern sensibilities ( well, given a generous point of view) so ther is an added edge of the seat aspect to them now.
Spinal Tap and Blazing Saddles could have made the list, possibly Shaun of the Dead ( again tight writing and lots of ahh I'd forgotten that moments).
Googling top funny movies it's odd what makes the lists. Ghostbusters is usually up there and I don't think of that as a comedy at all ( it's a film with funny bits). Maybe add Groundhog Day to my list if that's counted as comedy then, again super tight writing.
The Hangover
3rd not sure yet
Withnail & I
The Big Lebowski
Step Brothers
Pick of Destiny
holy grail
erm...
Hot Fuzz
I'll say Anchorman because nobody else has yet, but I don't think I'd want to watch it again. Got my fill as a youth. And what an abysmal sequel!
Would add Stir Crazy and See No Evil Hear No Evil.
Another fave is Liar liar. Classic Jim Carrey, the 'set piece' scenes make me laugh so much every time: "The pen is blue!!!" "I'm kicking my ass!" etc etc
I'd have to think about a 3rd one ...
Battlefield Earth. There's so much wrong with it, you can't help laughing.
Avatar. Ditto.
