I thought the LOTR films were great, although I must admit I haven't re-watched them since. Then he fell in love with the capabilities of CGI. King Kong was tolerable, but flabby and overblown and not a patch on the original. He really blew it with The Lovely Bones and the Hobbit films are just shite.
The Frighteners is great. Totally subjective, but I think it's one of those very rare films where the pacing is perfect, I never once get bored or feel anything is rushed. He now seems to have completely lost that ability to edit effectively.
