If you had 2-3 weeks to take as a block or in pieces... What guitar "courses/holidays/residentials" do you know of that might be of interest?

Doesn't matter about location or anything like that.

Best thing I ever saw was a genuine flamenco show in Córdoba, if that's any use.  Unreal scenes, and the atmosphere.  And the all night industrial level drinking...

  • Sounds good! But is that somewhere you can learn and play, too? The more outlandish the better. I want to do something amazing (especially as no girlfriend now - need to get to one of these things!!)

  • Going to Steve vai's house in the US would be very cool! It's expensive though.

    How expensive? He does that?

  • Yeah here's the link:

My friend's brother did it and said that it was amazing, and he got to jam with Steve.

Justin Sandercoe runs these kinda things in some cool looking locations.

    Not cheap though.
The only easy day, was yesterday...

  • I can’t imagine enjoying a week with other players in seminars and whatnot.

If I had that sort of time to allocate I’d be going for a build-you-own acoustic course

  • Richard Thompson does the Frets and Refrains camp in the States. If money were no object, I’d love to go.

  • Freak guitar camp in Sweden run by Mattias Eklundh would be top if my list.

  • Yeah, the Mattias Eklundh one looks cool, and it's not actually extortionate. Paul Gilbert is doing something as well I think, unless I have that totally wrong. There's also the building courses. Student of mine has been on the Bailey one at least twice and loves it...it's a social thing as much as making a guitar.

I’ve been on a residential course with Tommy Emmanuel. It was a great musical experience first and foremost and I had the privilege of watching him and others play at close range for nearly 4 days straight. Lots of pointers on practice and what to work on. Also introduced me to jazz. Didn’t come back a better hands on player but that’s not really what’s it’s all about.

Dave Mustaine did some Megadeth boot camp thing a while back... I'm not sure if they're happening again. It looked a bit of a cash grab to me, but there were lessons, jams, I think everyone got some time with him & David Ellefson... and there was prayer time too (but that wasn't mandatory, thankfully)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

Do it ! there's loads to choose from. FWIW I don't think the Vai one is that expensive if you stay off campus.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I also wouldn't say no to a singing version too (being an amateur singer!!)

Quite like the look of this but I can't find a single indication to costs other than a £300 booking fee?

Stay in. Buy a Truefire course and sit for 8 hours a day with it every day. Otherwise it's just a milking show. Guitar retreats are cheap. Stay in and practice.
That would progress playing more than a residential course yes, if that’s the only desired benefit.
