I like learning some intro’s like Funk#49 James Gang, Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter by the Stones, intro and fill licks like Lady Writer by Mark Knopfler, Sex Pistol songs are quick to learn and instantly recognisable with a short solo so can be done without getting bogged down too much,

Just learned the main riff to John Mayer's Good Love Is On The Way earlier today. Wasn't really familiar with the song beforehand but saw a vid of a band I know doing a 'Skype Jam' with the track on Facebook and it sounded way catchy.

Fun little riff to play, and simple so can be learned in minutes!

Hendrix's (or John Mayer's) Think I better Wait TIl Tomorrow is another one with a good funky, fun to play riff.

  • Not the most complex at all but Cars by Gary Numan. If you find his live versions from the last few years on YouTube the main synth riff is usually played by guitar.
There is a secondary slightly twiddlier riff as well, there aren't really any solos or strummy bits in the song.
There's a Fear Factory version which, I think, is in something like drop D.
    Hehe, here’s my attempt...

Loads of great riffs in this tune, and damn how crisp do Nikko's drums sound!

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

    Bit of trading feedback here.

Bit late to this party, but you know when something pops into your head completely unexpectedly and you have to have a go at it...

Just spent ten minutes properly learning James Gang's Funk #49.  There's a nice time to the little blues lick at the start.  Probs won't take you long but it'll put a smile on your face, or it did mine anyway.

Lazy I've always loved, but for some reason I can never get the riff right!  Something about the descent from the high F seems to get twisted and it never seems to work for me - what's the secret?

That said, I notice Mr Blackmore has morphed it a bit over the years too, so I gues it's not just me (I'm clearly just as able...).

That bit *is* the tricky bit, combination of string skipping and a double time part (only first time through).

Totally slipped on this over the past week but hopefully resume over the next few days. It's funny how even being on lockdown if you have kids you can somehow not have enough time for 30 mins of guitar a day....
