Hey guys,

Now a project thread

I bought a Player Jag as the donor for a project I’m doing, It’s going to get some vintage sunburst action with @SteveRobinson ;;;;; nitro. Then plenty of lacquer checking and wear.

Any how I stripped all the red poly off the body today with a heat gun/ scraper and went to mock it up after and the neck wouldn’t fit? It was pretty snug to start with.

Any ideas?

Moisture absorption by unsealed wood fibres.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Thanks for your comment @Funkfingers ;That was my first thought, but it hasn’t seen any moisture and its not that humid today.

Just gave it another try and it fits but its super snug!

Was it still warm from the heat gun?

Yeah it’s always a gamble! but this one has a really nice grain.

I had ordered some shoreline gold just in case it was a mess under the poly.

Nearly done, just waiting for the clear to turn up and then it will get some tasteful ageing

I might do something to obscure the joint line on top prior to clears...

Thanks Steve @SteveRobinson appreciated, all your nitro products: Tinted Amber, Tobacco and clear cherry.

    My first Fender burst :)

I was going to wait until my order arrived but looked at the forecast and decided to make the most of the weather.

Thanks mate, just going for lacquer checking and the odd chip and dink in areas that would see wear. So around the jack, bottom edges, upper and lower bouts. Will start modest and work it up

That looks tremendous really good job.  Being nitro how long will you have to wait before putting it back together?

My daughter has her first electric and I said we would paint it if she wants, just wondering whether she has the patience to wait for nitro...

    Thanks @munckee ;

Im about as patient as your daughter and rebuilt it the next day after painting. That said I’m going to age the jag so wasn’t really worried about any marks. I think the hot dry weather and light coats helped as well.

Nice job @skippy76 ;! I think I'm going to take a crack at a nitro refinish soon. Have you done many before?

Cheers @mikenetic Ive done about a dozen solid nitro colours over the past couple of years, I have a GSP Double Cut LP Junior that has been about 5 different colours.

Ive always used @SteveRobinson nitros and they are really easy to use.

So far I think this burst and the ES335 I did in Sparkling Burgandy (clear cherry over gold) are my favourites
