@Roland ;I used a trick someone (I forget who sorry) mentioned on here. I drilled pilot holes for the screw positions and screwed down a Tele control plate. I drilled lots of 2mm holes close together inside the control plate slot then moving the drill bit side to side joined the holes. Then I removed the control plate, tidied the slot using a small flat file and drilled out the fixing holes with a 3.6mm bit.

I'd planned on the Dremel router approach - and have done that before - but your approach sounds safer and is clearly neater.

 @Jimbro66 suggested the Tele plate trick for a scratchplate I was making last year.

That's a stunning top, don't think it needs a plate personally. It's also almost the dream guitar I have in my head

Better weather today so I got some painting done. I've gone for a 70s Deluxe vibe on the back and sides, to practice shooting off the edge (inside to outside).



The bare shell weighs 5lb 5oz so fully loaded it should end up well under 6½ pounds.

Just for @Rabs a shot of the whole top with another coat of clear lacquer. Glowing like burnished gold as the sunlight shines through the leaves above

I did some more tops today if anyone is interested     By the way, just so its clear, I dont get commission or anything, its just these tops are so beautiful they need to be seen.. They will be going up on eBay if no one is interested. All about 15mm thick at the moment.

What I love about this guitar is that it looks so classy - not over the top showy - but still amazing to look at.   A fine guitar.

It really needs more attention to the finish but I was impatient to get this completed.

The binding isn't brilliant around the horns but at the end of the day it's been an exercise for me.

It does however play realy nicely if I say so myself!

Lovely work - the overall look reminds me of some of the nicer Hamers and Ibanez solids.  Great burst on the back too.

Looks very nice indeed... I dont usually go for gold hardware but actually it quite matches the hue of the wood..

I reckon plenty of people would pay good money for that

i made an almost identical truss rod cover the other day, just with the screw hole at the opposite end

It has two screw holes but the top one is obscured by reflection. I saw yours of course and it seemed the natural shape.
