The sweep taps at the start remind me a lot of an alexi laiho (sp?) lesson on diminished arpeggios with sweep taps.

Damn difficult, he'd sweep three notes, tap, slide up a positions, pull off then finish the rest of the sweep. Iirc, anyway.

I'll see if I can dig it out, I remember not being able to get it beyond a simple three string diminished 7th without tapping. Mental stuff.

Well UFO's Paul Raymond collected his guitar with the "Big Block" Broadcaster type pickup today.
Will be rehearsing with it in the next few days so hopefully get some good feedback.

He mixes piano/keyboard duties with Rhythm guitar duties so it'll be used for certain songs, as well as on his Paul Raymond Project  gigs early next year.

Oh yes - Strangers in the night is an amazing live album.
The remastered version in the proper running order does reveal how out of it they were , which in a way makes the music they played seem even more amazing.

I didn't know there was a remaster.  Has it gone back to the running order on the vinyl version, or is it different from both that and the existing CD?

(Edit:  I've just seen the remaster was released in 2008... X(  )

The original vinyl version makes the band sound like a well oiled machine, whilst the CD (remaster 2008?) with revised running order simply makes the band members seem "well oiled".

The calibre of the songs remains fabulous and the band (especially Mogg seems not impaired when he sings)

  • The Broadcaster type wind was a bit more as expected - thick and yet spangly tele-lovliness
Here it is still in there:

Would love to see/hear a demo of this. Gassing for a junior type guitar at the moment and this is definitely on the short-list.

That pickup is now out with Paul Raymond who will be testing it with both his solo band and UFO. However the Lion Cub is still available with a pickup of your choice. We've returned it to a p90 for now with a Mississippi Queen but it's easy to swap out.

The Purple Panther nicknamed "Purple Ronnie" just got an upgrade.
Out went the EMG pickups and in came a set of theASL Guitar Pickups Blackbird set. We swapped the pots to CTS and added a push pull coil split on the tone control.

A very special pair of ASL Havoc pickups will be wending their way to Feline guitars this week!

    image

For those who haven't met the Havoc ... The bridge pickup was designed as the 'thinking man's metal pickup!' Taller than standard bobbins knock any wooliness from the 16k output ... and allow the choice of thicker winding wire for a fat bottom end. The hybrid magnet structure uses a triple magnet array with alnico 8 for warmth plus output ... and ceramic for sheer grunt. Flat out it's what it says on the tin ... pure havoc! Turn the volume down a little however, and it's a pickup with remarkable subtlety for such power.

The Havoc neck unit is built to be like a 'super PAF' ... 9k of full fat 42awg wire and a choice of classic alnico 5 or ceramic. Here again, the taller coils avoid any tendency to 'flubbyness' with the alnico 5 option ... and allow the harmonics to leap out.

You can have these in black or white too!

If I get another single pickup super strat, I'm going to turn it into an uber strat with one of these because they KICK ARSE.

LOVE the zebra look, too.  Really cool.

Ah - the harlequin Havoc pair
I can feel the need for these to go in a white flying Vee and channel some high gain Schenker licks :)

Would the neck model work as a bridge pickup for a lower-output, less metal guitar?
