I'm also aware it would look a lot more yellow next to a rosewood board

It's difficult to know how the photo compares with real life, but I'd say that looks about right.

I think the colour looks great Wez.  I like how it's coming together.

The second pic is in more direct sunlight, and I think that pushes it towards the yellower end of vintage white.

But it is easy to overthink these things

This look great with the Yellow finish and the maple neck and "birchy" inlays.
    Any more pics yet ?

Nah,its been cleared and is hanging out to cure

I did add a slight tobacco tint to the neck, but other than that it looks as it did above

Hi Wez, will the headstock face be black?

I have left natural so far.... but was debating it.   What would you prefer?

I think I'd like it black, just as a visual contrast and sort of a defining look.  Also, though they are not fitted yet, if the pole pieces on the middle pickup can be closer to the fingerboard, I think that would be better too.  Not that I really know how it would affect the sound!

this is now buffed out and has had a bit of ageing added to match the older bits of hardware.  Just done a test fit to see what i still need to do.

I need to do a bit more work finessing the plate bevel, but its not too far off done now.

hard to capture the colour though

we have light grainfill + sunken grain to try and get an aged appearance.. plus a few chips, and some checking on the go, this one wanted to follow the grain

the neck is less aged other than a tint and light checking... makes sense if you think of it as a 50's body with 70's neck replacement.

looks paler in this light, but shows headstock is now black.  wasn't sure about this, but I now think it works well for some contrast

And now for a proper faceplate moment.

Just come to do the fretwork and there is a very obvious bump at the 13th fret... I assume a fret must have popped.

Nope.   I somehow switched wire at the 13th fret  to a bigger size.   Sometimes nice when frets get smaller up the top end, but this is less than ideal.

Therefore the next job will be to replace frets 13-22.  The boards still level so I shouldn't need to redo it all.

I can only assume my fretwire got mixed up when I cleared out the old workshop a couple of years ago.

This may be the silliest mistake I have made for a while.  At least it wasn't a popped fret, as that would make me question the rest

Looks fantastic, just like something Birch has got his hands on!

The wrong frets have now been replaced.  I have some finish work to do just to touch up the fretboard a bit, but thought it best to fit some strings on and make sure everything else is fine.

    Thankfully it is.  Kubrick  approves.

Also bevelled the guard more, but i need to get that bottom layer a bit more even yet.

Suddenly its starting to look like a proper guitar

Looks great and a fitting Birch tribute.  Now that the body colour is done those inlays really work very well.
Would love to know how the pickup spacing combination sounds too.

It Looks fabulous ! I like the fretboard and colour choice going on there .
If I may add a small criticism though , those bridge locking screws are looking out of place being so long :) .
    Great job @WezV ;

Thats a vintage badass bridge for you.  It has a massive amount of intonation adjustment, most of which won't be needed
