Jack White has done a lot of country pretty much in all his bands except the dead weather. One I've been listening to recently is Parallel which was a B side but I think it's a cover so not sure if it still counts.

Blackberry Smoke's strap line is "Too Rock for Country, Too Country for Rock" - I'd agree, they're something else, but bloody marvellous with it !
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

    Led Zeppelin - Hot Dog

Ok technically it's a parody of a county song but IMO does it pretty well.

ELO - Wild West Hero, though it still sounds more like typical ELO than genuine country TBH
Some of the gear, some idea

I could so you a playlist of reggae covers of country songs and country versions of reggae songs ( might not be a 50:50 balance!). I’d enjoy it anyway.

...well nobody asked for it but I did it anyway...

it’s a bit middle of the road probably, I think I’m missing something obvious as well but as no one else will ever listen to it probably moot points...

Just to be contrary I'm listening to it.  Like it.  Although Johnny Cash has such a rich and powerful voice that Joe Strummer in that duet sounds like he should be in school or something.

Johnny Cash was the real thing, poor as hell, joined USAF, as a radio operator was first to announce to west that Stalin was dead. Door to door salesman etc. Then Country Icon. As opposed to Joe the public school boy.

Amazed Dire Straits haven't been mentioned. I almost think of their first album as a country album in a subtle way - a sort of understated British take on country music.
