Ahh, Dire Straits. This song I knew as a country song ( Mary Chapin Carpenter) and only later in discovered it was a DS song.

Cadillac 3 are one of those bands that sort of cross the line between country and rock. They're heavier live, it's a bit too cheesy country for me sometimes but they're still cool.

    No-one mentioned the Eagles yet?!

OK they started out as a heavily country-influenced band originally, but they were definitely a rock band for a long time.

The bad news is that they went back to country-rock on Long Road Out Of Eden and it just wasn’t very good...

  • I thought of them as a country band with Bernie Leadon, but with Joe Walsh rock.

Surprisingly given Walsh's 'wild' reputation I think it's Felder that made the difference - One Of These Nights and the bits he played on On The Border are definitely rock not country, but Long Road Out Of Eden is (third rate) country, even with Walsh still in the band.

  • Always found the band a bit strange with songs like Take it easy, peaceful easy feeling etc.
They were the epitome of west coast Country rock. Yet none was from California, album was recorded in London with a rock producer everything screamed rock band apart from their sound.

For the Stones, I guess we're talking:

Might be some Neil Young & Crazy Horse back catalogue that qualifies.

About 1998/99 I went to see MCC live. The support was some bloke singing with an acoustic guitar and toward the end of his set he said he was going to be joined by a special guest. This tiny, rather dumpy woman in a tracksuit walked onstage to no reaction from the audience. Anyway, the song started and a huge round of applause after one line in as we all realised it was MCC. She glammed up a bit for her own set.

Elvis Costello's Almost Blue Lp is pretty much a country record.

Blackberry Smoke released another song from their upcoming new album - produced by the amazing Dave Cobb - and I love every single note of it!

It’s pretty much a blatant lift from Dixie Chicken but it’s RIGHT up my alley!

It even has a warning sticker to that effect, attached to the sleeve (or jewel case).

  • Does early Slade (like Martha my Dear) count?
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.
