Fan fret guitars

I was thinking about a zero fret as well, but wondered whether it would be just an unnecessary complication

@WezV I'm sure you seen the post I did a few years ago on the UKGB forum but for any one else who has not seen the post it show how to to work out the drop away angle on Fan fret head stock so there is no fingerboard wood after the nut.

yeah I remember that.  I went for a similar method but rather than hand plane (too hot yesterday), i spent a few minutes playing with my router thicknesser jig, a few blocks of wood, clamps and some careful positioning

i then trimmed the back of the neck on the bandsaw which has left the bass side of the headstock thicker than the treble, as expected.  I think i will use a Safe-T planer in the drill press to thickness the back of the headstock
