I've watched a fair few films recently.

The Guest- Started off really strong and then just turned into a teen slasher flick. Which was a real shame.

Predestination- I really enjoyed this, it will scramble your brainbox slightly but I recommend it.

Brooklyn- I went on a date to see this....Not my first choice. Well acted and well written and Julie Walters is brilliant in it.

Various Clint Eastwood films, a perfect world, dead pool. Some better than others all quite 80s.

Currently watching one of my all time favourites Vertigo. Picked up a Hitchcock set on Bluray for a steal. And I'm slightly in love with Kim Novak.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

  • i have man flu at the moment so have watched a few films:

Black Mass - great to see Johnny Depp acting again in a real film instead of hamming it up in costumes, he was fantastic in it but the movie as a whole was a little loose for me, there was no real direction in the story and at the end it was a bit of an anti-climax.

Everest - why anyone would want to climb Everest is totally beyond me, watch this if you fancy it and it you still want to do it you're insane. Good movie though, but brutal in parts.

Spectre - watched this a few weeks ago, wasn't impressed, it was like Bond by numbers, as if someone was ticking off a checklist. Christoph Waltz was completely wasted as the villain too, he had nothing to do!

He's a tremendous read. Try the Western Trilogy. Brutal.

Ah, cheers, JD - would that be what Wiki is calling The Border Trilogy?  It sounds ... stark!
That's the one. I've just reordered it.

  • Saturday night in sat on yer arse for hours on end watching shite, it's not good is it? Anyway Non Stop which wasn't actually terrible although I doubt if my life has been enriched in any great way by it. Quite a lot of Really They Expect Us to Believe That moments but it was pacey which I appreciate.

Caught the middle of Polar Express, then fell asleep for two hours and woke up thinking I was 6 and it was the night before Christmas.  It's ace.

Finished off the original Star Wars trilogy with my son this morning (6:15 AM and we're on the sofa watching the last 20mins of Return of the Jedi).

The Ewoks get a lot of hate (from grown ups)....but for a 7 year old they're fantastic, he chuckled like anything when he released they'll be a big battle between them and the Storm Troopers.

He'd seen a still photo of Vader with his helmet off at the end so that wasn't as much as a big scene as it should have been, but he totally understood the redemption part of the story.

    Ha ha, that's excellent @DesVegas

We'll now be heading to the strange world of the prequels....and I need to be good and not biased here.

I want him to make up his own mind about them....which might be tricky, but likewise I'm really interested to see what he thinks about them from his fresh pair of eyes and not my jaded 40 year old eyes and childhood memories.

  • Spectre.32 of us watched this whilst all the little kids ran in and out of Star Wars.
It's a pretty classic Bond. I liked that grittier reinvention of the first half of Casino Royale and that element has gone out again. But I still enjoyed it.

I watched Chappie on Sky movies last night - thought it was bloody brilliant! It really builds.

Certainly a very different take on the AI story than Ex Machina was.
    Red ones are better.

The Lobster. Utterly weird, quite compelling. Has a very Wes Anderson feel to it, but much much darker. Memorable quote: "do you know why I've brought you to this beautiful part of the forest? ......no............ I thought it would be the perfect place for you to dig your grave!"

If he's anything like my two, he'll love the first one, especially the pod race. They were mostly indifferent to the second and hated the third ("I thought it was supposed to be exciting, why's there so much talking in it?" ) I think kids can spot a turd as well as any adult.

I watched Blazing Saddles with my son the other day. It was one of my favourite films when it was released. Hugely unPC now of course, but a fart gag never ages. Glad to say he was laughing a lot so we went on to watch Young Frankenstein. He liked that too... now I just need to get him to like Weather Report, King Crimson and Porcupine Tree and my job here on earth is completed.

Watched Bone Tomahawk (Kurt Russell) the other day. Western movie with a twist towards the end. Slow buildup but with great dialogue between the 4 main characters. Builds up to an extremely violent ending with one of the most gruesome deaths I've seen in a movie in a while. . . . Probably a bit long but can see it becoming a cult classic
    Seemed like a good idea.....

I was home looking after my sickly daughter and watched Beethoven yesterday. What a blast from the past. I love those 80/90's kids movies

Just watched Inside Out. I was rather underwhelmed.
People are talking about this being a possible best picture at the Oscars. Not best Animation. Best Picture.
I liked it a lot but that's a bit silly.
    Just saw this ,

Its was great but its not up there with Monsters Inc or Toy Story.
