In Rainbows to Radiohead is a bit like Live Aid was to Queen. A triumph for both bands and arguably saved them both.
HTTF is a fantastic record and they didn't need saving. Fight me!

How's it going so far? I'm loving hearing this through the big headphones! I've herd this album hundreds of times but usually in the car/works van so sitting down and dedicating myself to it is great.

It's great through headphones (Shure SRH1440's here) - it's a surprisingly claustrophobic listen and there's a correspondingly paranoid air about the whole thing. Very clever

They're VERY good at using orchestras.

Thom Yorke's vocals reminds me of that bloke from Blue Nile.

    That bloke!!

    Ian Buchanan.
    Martin Buchan.

Nope, I got confused by your icon image. He was Scottish though.
He was one of Manchester United's best signings.

Admission: apparently I added 'In Rainbows' to a Spotify playlist on Dec 20th 2019...this would only be my second listen for some reason.
what do you think of it so far?
Really enjoying it...as with all 'listening parties' so far, the close-up listen has been rewarding.

I played the crap out of everything from The Bends to Kid A (and The Eraser) back in the day...then suddenly turned away ;-?

Yep, the whole arranging side of things is JG's biggest strength by far - see also his film scoring work. Most of the guitar stuff post-Kid A has come from Thom, who also happens to have phenomenal taste in guitars.

It's not bad. It's better than other stuff I've heard by Radiohead on first listen. Maybe I should revisit those albums because I didn't really get them at the time.

Reckoner - They have changed up the feel part way through the song again. The stark drum has gone and it's become much more lush.

My one criticism of this track: I wish that outro orchestral thing went on longer. SO Massive Attack.

Reckoner been the best track for me thus far.

Right, but it's so smoothly handled - I mean, yes, there are fairly abrupt changes and some almost imperceptible ones but it all fits
