I think it is a very sensible strategy (by Gibson) to:
    1. Have the Historic Les Paul range as Old School and reasonably accurate. (But please do something about the nickel pickup covers)
    2. Allow your team to do whatever they damn well want with the USA Les Paul Standard. If the guitar can evolve into a hybrid of old and new - fine. But that scrawl on the headstock is just bizarre. WTF.

Old logo - classy, this one looks like someone has been let loose with a fat gold marker pen

I can live with most of Gibson's idea's and the way they have "developed" the range of the last few years but I'm in shock at the logo - if they want'ed to add 100 to the text fine but why make it look like a 3 year old scribbled it.  Horrific!

  • Is the logo actually something les Paul scribed before he passed? In which case, ok. If it's not, the artist needs shot :)

I said it before in the original thread about these, I honestly think this will be a poor performing sales year for Gibson. I'm not against them trying new things like the adjustable nut but the headstock logo is absolutely terrible.
The 2012 models with laminated boards and different woods caused enough grief amongst gibson fans but I'd have one of those in a heartbeat over a new 2015 model. The resale value on these will probably be terrible.

I hope they're amazing, and the resale is terrible.

Because I'd love a great Gibson Explorer or lp.

I kinda wish they'd just fix the headstock... And make the neck angles consistent... And also, what's with the pcb mount electronics? Are they still being used?

Edit: it's an old guitar design. Why the hell are we getting new models?!

Maybe if they just added a robot tuner option, and maybe the nut option. Yeah, that would work. No more new models, it's hard enough to work it out as it is!

  • The logo does look naff.
Apart from that, looks great! Maybe I've been harsh on Les Pauls... always thought they were clunky, too many controls, heavy, hard to get upper fret access..

  • TPD: no explorer in this years range that I can see.

  • What is the resale value for Les Pauls like?

What I've seen for other guitars, approx:

PRS - buy one for £2.5k+ and sell for £1.6k+.
Suhr - buy for £2.1k, sell for £1.2k+
Fender - buy for £1400, sell for £800+

Please correct me on the above if generally wrong!!

PRS is more like 50% of new 'street' price - same with Suhr.

Fender and Gibson seem to perform rather better - 60-65% it seems.

As a general rule if you buy a used Gibson you should never lose money on it.

  • There are SO many Gibson models I wouldn't know where to start
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • Sign me up too for one of those LP Special Double Cuts, even though I shouldn't really need another guitar might have to snap one of these up, can see that one being quite popular to be honest.

So, hang on. All of the 2015s come with the nonsense G-Force tuning thing stuck on the back? Even the Jr/Specials?

I wonder what the new P90s they've introduced (P90ST & SR) sound like too, as they are different to previous P90s they used. I've heard they're brighter.

Yes, but you do get a case with the lower models now instead of a gig bag.
