Great structure and pacing (notwithstanding the coda, which I could do without. Good end to side 1 though). And a great story song

"When Doves Cry" was probably my introduction to Prince - I still have the 7" I bought at the time. Just an incredible track. It has no bass line! (apparently it was removed)

I don't think I was, although I probably heard 1999 and Little Red Corvette on the radio without really knowing who it was

I always think of "I Would Die For U" and "Baby I'm A Star" (weakest track on the album) as the filler on side 2 between two absolutely stellar all-time classics. Possibly they just suffer by comparison

On headphones, "I Would Die For U" has a very annoying stuttering synth bass running through the whole thing that I never noticed before, which means it probably balances out better on big speakers

I was chatting to Mrs C and I Would Die for U came and went without me really noticing.

There aren’t enough proper synth solos these days.

The solo is the big moment, but those outro chords are gorgeous.

Difficult to know what to say about Purple Rain (the track) that's not been said before. Epic, over-the-top but wonderful. I didn't know until recently that it was recorded live in concert (albeit with overdubs afterwards)
