The Story of Anvil

What's Hot
OK, so it's a film and not music, but I feel this suits this section better than OT.
Anybody seen it? It's been recommended to me. If it's anything like Detroit Rock City then I'll love it.

It's both brilliant and funny, but also quite sad.

I know they got a lot of exposure and some support slots on the back of the film so that's good. Not sure what happened after that though, I suspect disappeared back into obscurity.

I quite like it, I vaguely remember them from the first time around as well which I think helped. There are certainly worse rock movies. At least it's not one of those where someone is wracked with guilt about a sibling's death for two hours.

A really great film that is both funny and extremely poignant. The passion of the guys to still keep going for their dream is humbling. I just loved the film.

Log off right now and get to it!  I can understand the Anvil movie but Spinal Tap is a requirement! Go! Now!  BTW, the Anvil movie is good, as everybody said, I remember them from the early days what with being a Canadian and all.

Yes I'd certainly take a look. It's quite moving in places without being sentimental.

Great film. Moving and feelgood; gotta love the underdog!

    Real life Spinal Tap.

You should check out Searching for Sugar Man too.

    It's an excellent film.

I saw the premiere at the London Film Festival a few years ago.  Anvil were in attendance and actually played a mini live set right there in the Odeon West End cinema.

You need to do this today!

I've got a 2 disc edition of Spinal Tap - the second disc has a load of deleted scenes and runs for about an hour and a half - if you watch them using 'play all' it's basically like watching Spinal Tap 2. Or at least the sort of sequel where the events run parallel to the events of the first. Anyway 'tis great!

The Anvil film is great stuff. I saw the band a while back when they were supporting Saxon. I can see why they didn't make it big tbh :|

The Anvil film is great to watch after seeing Metallica's 'Some Kind Of Monster'.
Anvil show what being in a band should be about, namely playing and enjoying playing for the sake of it, rather than to keep the corporate machine churning out 'product'. They also seem like pretty likeable guys- which is more than you can say for Hetfield and Ulrich.

They've disappeared again haven't they? Not heard much about them for quite a while anyway. I saw them touring with Saxon when the film came out. Tbh, they really weren't that great, I think they only got the gig on the back of the success of the film.
