  • Won't be any use to @Gulliver unless he's in fact a millennial girl, and it's not very cheery, either, but this brand new one is well crafted:

For a spot of truly joyous cheese, here's the first in what became a long Letterman tradition - the fabulous Darlene Love with Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Note house band having the time of their lives

When I suggested Silent Night, this kind of interpretation was exactly what NOT to play.  Sing it accompanied by simple finger style chords, the simpler the better.
Hmm, I quite like it, but then again that’s me playing it.

Eljo Haselhoff does a lot of Xmas tunes, this is one of his simpler ones.

Might upset the odd member of the audience, nothing like bringing a little punk attitude (song couldn’t be less punk btw).

  • I think starting from the hugely erroneous claim of ‘most Christmas songs are s***’ is your biggest problem.

  • Not worked out the chords yet, but the seasonal sentiment is just right.

It's a belter of a tune, and Darlene Love is a consummate professional and a fabulous performer. Possibly my favourite Christmas song, and unlike Ebenezer Grinch the OP (just kidding), I don't think that Christmas music is almost all shit. I love it, and while it's great to find new festive songs that are good (A Little Bit Of Christmas by Juliet Brown is this year's discovery), it's the classics that always feature most heavily.

Possibly my favourite Christmas song…Sacrilegious, but I actually prefer the U2 version…

Christmas songs are meant to be shit.

Taking it too seriously is maybe more shit?

Charles Brown: Merry Christmas Baby... great song IMHO, with fab Johnny Moore guitar. 'Well, I haven't had a drink this morning, but I'm all lit up like a Christmas tree...'

We do this at any gigs we do in December.
