Good call - I love WEVERBEVIRYSRYINSTOREACHHINF, and BBPUTVOLIRCAR55XTSHDSOANDARRANJL is their best work yet.

Along similar lines to Opeth and Wilson/Porcupine Tree:
    • Avkrvst - a couple of moments borrowed directly from the above!
    • Soen - Opeth's old drummer, not technically that progressive these days. Early stuff is quite Tool-ish, last few albums are much more straightforward.
    • Caligula's Horse - pretty much my favourite band at the moment. Fantastically crafted songs. More energetic and modern than Opeh/Steven but I think they'll appeal. Sam Vallen is a terrifying guitarist and writer.
    • Plini - instrumental fusiony-proggy, one of the most important guitarists of the current generation IMO.
    • Haken - more "traditional" prog, along the lines of Dream Theater / Genesis / Gentle Giant.
    • Leprous - they've got a little gentler with each release, and Einar Solberg's voice is I suspect either love or hate. I love it but I can see how others wouldn't.
Normally I'd recommend Animals As Leaders, too, but from your stated dislike of Tesseract, I'd veer away from a lot of the more modern Meshuggah-influenced djenty prog.

    Amusingly, the To-Mera wiki page
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To-Mera ;
a couple of the members have their own pages linked from it, but not founding bassist Lee Barret. Who just happens to be about 1000 times more important than the rest rest of the band put together.

If you like Steve Wilson style, tried Pineapple Thief and Riverside?

For more metally stuff, Avenged Sevenfold. Hail to the King is great.

Myth of I - S/T (Instrumental Prog Metal)
Veronese - Unmagic (Brazilian Instrumental Fusion Prog Metal)

I quite like both of these at the moment. The guitar playing is off the charts.

Also been enjoying Icon 30, the re-recording of Paradise Lost’s album. Loved it back in the day. Guitar tones / production on the re-recording are great.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

weirdly I hated it back in the day but went to see them playing it a couple of months back and was surprised by how much I remember the songs.
Not heard the new version, but I've recorded with Gomez.

I think it was the first 'proper metal' album I bought. Still have it on cassette somewhere.

I saw the video for Embers Fire on Headbanger's Ball back when my aunt used to record Beavis and Butthead for me (I think Headbanger's Ball was on just before, or just after B&B).

A couple of mates went to the Shepherds Bush gig, but I couldn't go with them. Shame as I would have liked to see them.
