Willy's Chocolate Experience - the new Fyre festival?

What's Hot

Seeing the news reports of the Willy Wonka Experience in Glasgow. Wow. This needs to be a NETFLIX documentary.

Similar events usually the preserve of shysters promising a winter wonderland (a horse with antlers on standing in for a deer etc...), this takes the concept to new depths...

The promised chocolate fountains and "chocolatey delights" were conspicuously absent. Children were instead offered a half-cup of lemonade and a small ration of jelly beans.

Trading standards surely investigating?!

I love how they made up a character called The Unknown completely absent from the Roald Dahl books!
...she's got Dickie Davies eyes...

Tangentially related: I hadn't heard about the Fire Festival until it was mentioned in an episode of The Rest Is History, titled The Most Disastrous Party in History.

Spoiler: though Fyre sounded grim AF, it didn't win. Worth a listen!

At the risk of victim blaming, would you stump up for an event publicised with this?

Well quite. Unless the graphic designer was doing their best to interpret the Glaswegian instructions.

Fyre and Woodstock 99 were multi day things where people were trapped in nightmarish conditions.

This was a bunch of parents going to an empty sports hall and yelling at a bloke dressed like an ompa loompa. I don't think it will make a documentary.

I read somewhere this week they reckon thats how the guy got the scripts for the actors to use

It’s funny how this has gone from a local story on FB groups last Saturday to being daily national news.

Basically the guy who organised it is a serial conman. He also had a load of books on Amazon set in Glasgow that were entirely AI generated.

I mean, it's shitty and all but it's nothing compared to the Fyre Festival shambles is it.

Looking at a video on YouTube it looks a bit poor and not good value for money, but they clearly tried to do something decent. The props look good and kids would have loved it if they'd pulled it together properly.

The pictures on the bbc news site show a different story, it was always going to be shit without a massive amount more work by the looks of it.

To be honest, I'd probably pay £35 to see it at this point.

I only know of this fiasco because it was discussed by Mark and Elliot Steel in their WTF Is Going On podcast. The WWE seems like a rival to Banksy's Dismal Land theme park.

I don't think it will make a documentary.
It would make quite a good Bill Forsyth film, though.

Though "Willy's Chocolate Adventure" sounds like a euphemism for anal sex.
