Beard or no beard?

What's Hot

I had one when I was around 25 which lasted about 6 months before I got rid of it. Then, a year and half or so ago I grew one for an acting part I had where I had to play an older guy. I'm already old, but this really sealed it!

I quite liked it. After the initial itchy period, I got used to seeing myself bearded. I think it got me another role, too, at the beginning of last year when I played a dad role. It was easy, too: no having to think about shaving. However, my wife didn't like it much, and I got rid of it summer last year (it's still on my avatar, though). Do you have one?

I'm currently trying 1.5mm stubble along the jawline and upper lip area, partially because it makes my fat head look a bit less big but mostly because shaving every other day was giving me really bad razor burn so I hoped it would reduce that. It has ever so slightly, but not as much as I'd hoped. However I've stuck with it after shaving it all off once and seeing once again my massive moon face, and also because I work at home most of the time so it doesn't really matter if I look like the homeless Ian Beale

Yeah. It is approximately 15 centimetres when straightened. If I were you I'd grow one like this and tell your wife that you're auditioning for the new Aquaman film.

It was like between the 80's and say 2015, we would look back at wedding pictures from the seventies and laugh about how ridiculous blokes with full beards looked on the pictures.

That's because full beards do look ridiculous full stop, grow one and you will regret it at some point in your life.

Neater, shorter beards all fine. But those tiny goatees which just look like a blob of shit on the chin from a distance, also look bloody stupid.

Moustaches on their own make blokes look like they are from the eighties, which they probably are.

For less risky future ridiculousness just have a shave each day plus some clearasil if you get spotty.

I've mostly had some sort of beard for maybe twenty years. Although it's more that I hate shaving than like beards. I have tried growing a longer beard but unless you are happy looking like a tramp there's actually quite a lot of maintenance involved. So I've gone back to trimming my beard when I do my hair and looking like a bespectacled coconut.

Do what you want and nuts to everyone else*.

*Caveat: I'm not allowed to shave by my wife, but as I want to make my wife happy, this is what I want too, which is fortunate, because shaving bores the piss out of me.

I’m lazy. I shave once a week on Monday.

By Sunday evening I have a beard.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

I have a stubble usually, No1 on the clippers, grew a big beard in the first lockdown to the point where Mrs B said she wouldn't have sex with me anymore because I looked like Roald Dahl's Mr Twit. To be honest it was a bit of a faff controlling it after a while due to it being very wavy and had a mind of it's own, unlike me who begrudgingly shaved it off. The three times we've had sex since then have been worth it though.

I had some til 5-6 years ago, and then realized that men tend to grow them (or stupid goatees) when they get old and fat. So now I grow everything I have on my head for several months, and then get rid of it completely. And so on. Saves time, and it's good when you don't have to think about it.

If you have a beard you are cancelling your chin.

I've had some form of beard for 20+ years.  Just a goatee for a long time because I didn't think I was hairy enough to grow a full beard, but I let it grow when I was on holiday for two weeks in 2017 and it turned out OK.  I haven't shaved since, just trimmed it.

It's not a super thick beard and it won't grow long - I am neither Billy Gibbons nor Captain Haddock.  But the natural shape of it is not bad (IMO) and there aren't any really sparse patches... except sideburns, I can't grow sideburns.

It's gone mostly white/grey at the front which probably makes me look older, but I'm not bothered because people usually guess I'm younger than I am, anyway.

    +1

    embrace your chin

Also, every footballer now looks like a hipster with their beards, haircuts and sleeve tattoos. This, along with rolled up sleeves on a T shirt, is especially uncomfortable to look at.

Some people don't have a chin, unless they use a carefully-trimmed beard as an artificial jawline.

And some have multiple chins, and thus the equilibrium is maintained

I keep saying this to my 22 year old son who is currently sporting a 'tache. It seems it's trendy among students and the like. They like 80s clothes too.

Very short beard, pretty much my whole adult life. It just looks better and feels more comfortable, to me. MrsICBM prefers it too.

I don't like beards. I mistrust any bloke who feels the need to wear a beard.
I would never dream of growing a beard myself.

    ..except....I have worn a beard since 2010.

Kept getting an ingrowing hair when I shaved, and decided all I could do was grin and bear the shame and grow my facial hair out until it was sufficiently long enough to hopefully avoid another ingrowing hair once I inevitably shaved it off. Problem is, my missus much prefers me with it and I have put too much weight on to lose the slimming effect of the beard.

Still hate them, but can't really imagine myself without one now.
