I currently have a short trimmed one.
I grew it the year before covid on holiday and for the first time I really liked it. Luckily, even though I'm nearly 60 it is still very dark with a bit and salt and pepper on the chin and my eyebrows and lashes are still dark so it works. People think I dye it!
My wife likes the look and while she prefers smooth shaven, is okay with the feel as long as it doesn't get long. I've pissed about the shape a few times before now .. goatee, longer, shorter at the sides longer at the chin... now it just follows my natural beard line mostly but needs attention every 3 days as the hairs seem to grow at different rates. They don't suit everyone.
There's too many uneven patches of grey and white, some of the white sticks out at right angles to my face and the whole thing looks "10p for a cup of tea, guv" if I let it go.
I may go back to goatee, the sideburns can look very patchy like I've been trimming it with the lights off.
Billy Gibbons' 'Tone Beard'?
Or a half-arsed Shaggy from Scooby Doo one?

All I've ever wanted was side burns, but I have about 9 hairs on the right and 7 on the left.
I dont get the genetics part, my father had a lot of facial hair a my brother also has.
Shaved it off once, the wife hated it as it made me look 20 years younger than her.
So now go to the hairdressers once a month for a trim to keep it nice and tidy looking.
I have been in a motorcycle club since I was 23 and it was part of the typical identity.
I was asked to shave and let my hair grow out by a barrister when I was giving evidence in court on behalf of a brother .
I did .
I also realised how much younger and more handsome I looked .......so I kept it that way .
I grew a beard back for a few weeks a couple years ago .....it was grey .
Don't want to look like a Father Christmas / Captain Birdseye .......so I shaved it and remain clean-shaven.
Beard trimmer > razor for man face. Can go neat short stubble for the smart business types. Safer, one off cost, ears, nose, eyebrows, included for those aged 50+ werewolf long hairs that seem to appear overnight.
