Why do so many people have trouble spelling "Squier"?

The title says it all. Maybe I should have called it "Why does it anger me so much when people refer to "Squire" guitars?" instead?

People don't struggle to spell it, more so that touch screen keyboards autocorrect it to Squire. As to why it angers you, I'm not sure, I find it mildly amusing and it doesn't harm anyone.

Some of that could be Auto Correct changing things without permission. Most of it is laziness.

Probably depends on what sort of secondary school you attended. In some establishments, pupils would be ritually flogged for lesser transgressions. Nowadays, many of the teachers can't spell.

More to the point, why did Fender name their budget offshoot 'Squier'?  It offends my sensibilities far more than the 'incorrect' spelling.  For all we know some idiot meant to call it 'Squire' but lacked the spelling skills.

Victor Carroll Squier was the idiot in question.

    V. C. Squier was an American string manufacturing company that Fender acquired in 1965.

More to the point, why do so many sellers on eBay insist on spelling ‘Squier’ as ‘Fender’?
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Perhaps they suffer from dyslexia, What I dont understand is how some people can be so judgemental and critical of others without actually knowing their circumstances.

Back in the 80s, I had a mate who spelt it correctly ... but pronounced it 'squee-er'.

Because squire is a young knight and hence people assume it's spelt the same for the range of budget Fender guitars...

Me too. I find it particularly grating in a for sale advertisement, where a seller does not spell the name of their own guitar correctly.
I appreciate it is my problem, not anyone else’s.

Bargains can be had by searching for Squire instead of Squier.

I'm autistic. I find misspelled words and bad grammar very, very annoying. They scream at me from the page.

Perhaps your own judgementalism should be tempered with consideration of others' circumstances.

It’s far too large a proportion to be explained by dyslexia.
