I like the name on the headstock. What did you do it with?

  • Nice work, Jal. Loving that headstock logo, too. :)

Of the 12Fret / Guitar Tech Courses' course:

I really enjoyed it, and James Collins is a great teacher.  Neck profiling, nut cutting (from an massively oversized piece of bone), full setup including truss rod tweaks, soldering in 3 busy and packed 9-5 days.  At no point were we under stress, it is about right for a partscaster build course.  I think they run once a month, and pub opposite is fine (but there is nothing else near by), with a Travelodge and Premier Inn not to far away.

    I'd thoroughly recommend it !

(Won't bump again, think everyone's seen it who wanted to).

    What next though ... ? ;)

Looks fantastic @Jalapeno - a bit of a Ted Greene influence there maybe? Great job anyway! :)

A bit of a shame you used modern bottled water rather than vintage correct water drawn from a well.  Still, looks pretty good despite that.

I did the 12th fret course as well. I can only echo what you have said. James is a great teacher and very knowledgeable.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I did a jazz master on this course with James and it was a great way to get into guitar setups and partscaster builds.  It’s great to have a guitar that you know from the ground up and I still enjoy changing pu’s etc and have since built pedals etc.  James is an excellent luthier, teacher and a great guy too.
