The OP was more about the way words change their meanings. This may be the passage of time, but also probably growing up. When I were a kid, a "dog" was a quadruped that went woof, and "pussy" was a term of endearment for a cat.

I remember when TV series were called "Series" not "Seasons". And they didn't stop mid-way through a series for a "mid-season break".
