Yeah, it works, but is a different look. You can cut pearloid on a laser too, so that is another option.

You can also do wafer thin pearl for sticking under a finish, but inlay thickness will turn to expensive chalk dust under a laser

Best thing with wooden parts is that you can burn designs into them too

What are you looking to use a laser for? Bear in mind that ABS/scratchplate material isn't suited for laser cutting (it will melt and almost always leaves a ridge on the underside), and some plastics give off noxious fumes. Acrylic on the other hand is great.

Yes, I know about the various plastics that can and cannot be used.

A lot of it will be for super accurate template and jigs.

I've done quite a bit of work with them already.

I made a Martin style belly bridge jig that holds a rough cut bridge blank in place that I can run along a router template.

It has locater holes in it for bridge pins too.

I slotted the fingerboard for the 000 on a laser too, although next time I'll raster it, rather than vector, so I can specify an exact width for the slots. This time I had to make them wider with a saw.

It means I can do a fan fret fingerboard cut that allows me to just press the frets straight in.

Also, a lot of the decorative inlay stuff.

I'm going for a bed size that allows me to fit an entire neck and an entire body in it (not at the same time)- so I can make routing jigs/templates for a bunch of guitars, including my own designs.

I might sell a few of them if there is interest.

I'm up to the cleaning up stage of the 000 guitar- I've raised the grain and then sanded back.

I should get some tru-oil on next week.

Thought people might like to see the lovely back and sides when I raised the grain.

Update:

This is a bit of a different one.

I'm attempting a restoration of a 1920's parlour guitar (obtained from Sheldon off this forum).

Originally it was just a bridge lifting that I was trying to fix but taking off the bridge caused a few problems.

The bridge was the only thing holding the top together, which promptly split down the middle.

I had to cleat and splint the soundboard.

Also the sides moved about a bit, which caused a brace to poke out the sides, so I had to separate the sides a bit, trim the brace down and then glue it all back up.

The pics will look quite pretty terrible- trust me I can make it look OK by the end.

I wouldn't normally post pics of a restoration, as the in progress pics can look really terrible, but as this is my own guitar I thought people might like to see how dramatic a change can happen.

Luckily it is a French polish finish, so I can blend/pull over the finish fairly easily- well, as much as any French polish is easy.

It just takes a lot of time.

Restoration is coming along.

Only have the shellac sealer on for now, but it is already starting to get sorted.

000 is up to its final coat of Truoil.

I need to put it down for a week or two to cure, then polish.

I'll wait until then to pics- it is looking great though.

That would be an interesting project (except if you want me to do it).

It will be fairly fragile, of course.
