Ok Line 6, sort yourself out, I stalked the new update and it sounded bloody horrible :( I looked at the settings and and it had re-written the input settings, turning guitar pad off and defaulting to 1meg impedance for the guitar input . Who, in their right mind uses 1meg, nothing and I mean nothing sound good at that impedance
Did you do a F9+F10 reset as part of the update?  If you do then it resets all the global settings.  The way I've done it on all the updates so far is:

Backup my set lists with the old PC software
Upgrade everything and do a F7+F8 reset on the Helix
Restore my set lists with the new PC software

The F7+F8 reset wipes all the patches and installs the factory ones in the new firmware but leaves all the global settings intact.

He actually got three responses indicating that someone earlier in the thread had answered the question and that they were 6L6's

Well, it comes in a nice brown cardboard box, with an IEC lead sellotaped to the outside..
    Um. It's quite heavy.

So, yeah, pretty damn awesome so far.. ;)

It had better be worth it - it's taken a lot of selling to raise the funds required!

If your review doesn't state that the Helix can make every noise ever encountered in human existence, carries itself to gigs with a mini-jet pack, makes your morning coffee, does your tax return and gives deep tissue massages, I'll be very disappointed.

By the time you factor in a few nice pedals, a pedal board and a decent power solution the Helix suddenly doesn't seem that expensive to me..

    and an audio interface...

this is what has sold me, it's the neatness of the all in one solution.

All I need to hope now is that if it breaks, it's within 2 years...

How good or bad do these helix jobbies sound in to the front and back of an amp for live useage?

    Apparently very good. I wouldn't know. I can't bloody get one. :-(

Best Rig I've ever had...too. At present I'm using it to go into the power amp in on my Fender Blues Deluxe. Unreal. When we get scenes I'll be able to essentially replicate my old-fashioned pedalboard with modular switching and into any of 40something amps and combos...some of which are very good indeed. And then there's all the other stuff on top of it. The recording stuff. The loops. Ye gods. I'm like that old session player. "How little did you say it costs?" The Marshall jcm800 and Matchless models are especially good. There are great Fender models. Everything needs tweaking, of course, but it is all there. Just a note. It sounds shit going into the front end of a Marshall jcm800 half- stack...especially if it is in such original condition that it has no fx loop. But it sounds brill going into the power-amp of most amps. With combos and more modern stacks you need to watch out for woolly bottom and a shrill-ish top end. Tame them and you are home and dry. And sounding better than you have in years, if my playing is anything to go by. :)
