    I love the extended solo that starts around 5 minutes into this song. Definitely won't be to everyone's taste though;

The solo on 'The Freedom Song' by Thin Lizzy from their  album 'Fighting'
So beautifully fluid and fits the song just perfectly.

    Kicks in at 1.47

Also Andrew Gold's two solos on the title track of his 'Whirlwind' album.
He was a great player with real bite to his soloing.
    Solos at 2:20 and 3:20

    Most of Ritchie Blackmore's.

The solo off the title track of the new The Darkness album, comes in at around 2:31. I love the tone, and the sustained bits, and the duel guitar toward the end. There's a tiny little shred in the middle, but it's such a melodic and well crafted solo.

Peter Green - Need Your Love So Bad

Peter Green - Black Magic Woman

Jimmy Page - Whole Lotta Love

Eric Clapton - I Feel Free

Jimi Hendrix - Wind Cries Mary

    Jimi Hendrix - Red House

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

Loads and loads of Jimmy Page stuff - Stairway, Achilles Last Stand, Whole Lotta Love etc. I know lots of folks don't like Jimmy's sloppyness - but it's the out of control/it's all about to fall over nature of many of his solos that sound so exciting to me.
Thin Lizzy - Still in Love With You (From Live and Dangerous)
Nightwish - Nemo (Album - Once)
Iron Maiden - Afraid to Shoot Strangers - Janicks odd harmonic thing (Album - Fear of the Dark)
All About Eve - In the Meadow (Album -  All About Eve)
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell) (Album - Heaven and Hell)
Deep Purple - Highway Star (Album - Machine Head)
Everything Jeff Beck does on Roger Water's Amused to Death
Megadeth - Hanger 18 (Album - Rust in Peace)

But I think my two favourite solos would be these:

Dave and Adrian's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son epic solothon.

    (starts around 7:10)

Adrian Smith - Stranger in a Strange Land. (From 3.12) I love the slow build on this, it's a beautifully crafted solo. And Harris' bass underneath it all almost makes it a dual solo. This video is the promo for the single by the way, which is why it looks lip synced rather than being really live.

  • Too many to list to be honest, but bizarrely Blackbird by Alter Bridge stands out for me. I had NO idea Mark Tremonti had those kind of chops!

There are so many it's impossible to list.

The one I'm listening to now is Dann Huff being UTTERLY FUCKING WONDERFUL as always, at 2:47:

Love Yngwie's solo on Too Drunk To Live, Too Young To Die.

I posted this elsewhere a couple of days ago. Three minutes in and the guitar duel starts, brilliant.

And the solo on this, the rest of it is generic. Starts about 2'20 in.

The list could go on forever, but just a few of my faves here.

The solo at 1:37, over a minute long and utterly brilliant.

and the best Guitar solo ever in a "Pop" record here. I keep thinking it's Nik Kershaw playing it, but I might be wrong, although he did write the song.

I think this is a Steve Lukather solo at 2:07, but it's great whoever it is.

Some great selections @Bellycaster.  I've not heard the Quincy Jone track in years so that was a nice reminder :)

It's got to be something by Michael Schenker for me..

Well it would be easy to say Rock Bottom or Lights out, but I'm going to go with this one, Always make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as the drums come in, Love the lush strings from Alan McMillan. Solo starts at 2:30. Short, simple, tasty!

Posted it before, don't even care - starts around 2'55", but worth listening from 2'30" at least for context.

@scrumhalf - vague bit of serendipity here. I was watching Chesney on the telly on Sunday and Nik Kershaw was on stage with him and played that solo. So, bit more evidence that it probably was him. It's a song that always reminds me of our own @Col_Decker who, IIRC, said it contained more chords than any other sing he'd ever learned. Without listening to it again I seem to remember it has a key change part way through the guitar solo which would be a major PIA for pentatonic widdlers.

Yes those too. Pretty much any Adrian Smith solo. It's interesting how Adrian's style changed quite a bit between leaving Maiden and rejoining again. He definitely gained some more shreddy abilities while away. Don't see that kind of thing that often.

And slightly related, but not him, I really like the solo on Bruce's Tears of a Dragon. That's Roy Z I think.

So many to choose from but these jumped into my head first:

Steve Vai's solo on the DLR track Big Trouble:

Ian Thornley on Ghosts channelling Albert King:

Of course, Michael Schenker.  Feels Like a Good Thing:
