And slightly related, but not him, I really like the solo on Bruce's Tears of a Dragon. That's Roy Z I think.

    I think so.

If you haven't already, then have a listen to Adrian post-Maiden (90's) band, Psycho Motel.

The outro solo to Metallica's Jump In The Fire kicks serious arse.

@scrumhalf - vague bit of serendipity here. I was watching Chesney on the telly on Sunday and Nik Kershaw was on stage with him and played that solo. So, bit more evidence that it probably was him. It's a song that always reminds me of our own @Col_Decker who, IIRC, said it contained more chords than any other sing he'd ever learned. Without listening to it again I seem to remember it has a key change part way through the guitar solo which would be a major PIA for pentatonic widdlers.
WOW Nik does a good Allen Murphy impersonation, single came out in '91 though, so it wasn't Murphy.

I've posted this before. Solo starts at 1:13 (and yes, I do prefer it to the original one):

I'll see your Sting and raise you 2 completely different Corrs versions... (Since the Corrs are sooo popular around here) ;)

The song is just an awesome platform to widdle away to...

    Solo 2:40 and 3:00 respectively

I have a real soft spot for solos that build. So alongside myriad Jimmy Page solos I'm going to go for a left field one from him from In The Evening. The first few notes sound like he is falling down the stairs while still playing! Also, Dude Looks Like A Lady is just f-ing tremendous supercharged old school rock n roll chops. Your Good Thing Is About To End on the last Robert Cray album too. Doesn't do anything except have a great sound and is just a perfect little coda. In terms of dynamics and going from somewhere to somewhere else I always like Angus Young solos too. He just builds excitement so effortlessly

Warning - Blooze Soloing Alert - I still like it even though it's long winded, it builds nicely.

Uriah Heep - Salisbury. It's very much a track of its time - i.e. pretentious and too long but when Mick Box steps on that wah pedal, it's pure class from start to finish.

I can't post Youtubes on my ancient iPad but it's easy to find if you search.

So many but for pure Solo, this has got to be up there for me, Robben at his very best at 1:25 Try not to watch the video at the same time as a) it's shit and b) it's just random images of playing guitar which really distracts from the music.

I love this, it is simply otherworldly - even Guthrie looks surprised at the end.
