Beneath a railway bridge opposite Holloway Rd tube station - turned up with a couple of grand in my pocket and no real idea where I was going - didn’t even think of the safety implications until my wife called me an idiot for not being more careful. Got home safely with my lovely new Travis Bean guitar

Done a lot of deals at Railway stations cos of my job. It's easier to just get on a train & meet at a mainline railway station.

I've only done a deal at Waterloo Station, and someone from this forum picked something up from my House.

Met Steve Vai backstage and bought his Carvin Legacy amp off him, which was quite unexpected!

For the large part, the usual round of service stations, pub car parks, blahblahblah.

Considering the astronomical mileage I've covered re. acquiring guitars/gear, I'm happy to report that nothing untoward or dangerous has ever happened, although I have met some strange people...forum company excepted, of course! ;)

On a tour bus, backstage in Columbus, Ohio for my first 50’s Junior was about the most interesting...other than that, it’s the usual Little Chef/Travelodge car parks generally.

  • Not a guitar but camera gear. The seller is a semi-pro photographer and shows me some of his work, which includes some well executed fine art nudes.

His girlfriend points to one of them, a black and white picture of a ladies bum that has been somehow lit so it's abstract and could almost be desert sand dunes and says "that's my bum that is."

The guy then says it's not, it's a model he works with. The couple proceed to have a full on shouting match row with each other about whose arse it is in the photograph whilst I wait nervously to pay for the camera gear!

I bought a Chapman stick at M4 services. Due to mis-planning we ended up on opposite sides of the motorway.

Given it’s shape I reckon a good hard lob and it would have made it over 6 lanes and two hard shoulders...

I agreed to buy an amp off @Gassage and he kindly brought it to my old office in Paddington. I handed him the cash and he said ‘I won’t count the money, it had better all be there because I’m a lot bigger than you are...’  o

Not guitar gear, but a bike.

I saw it advertised on Gumtree and arranged to pick up from an address in Acton.  When I showed up, I couldn't find the house number so called the guy who said "It's the Chinese Supermarket on the corner".

It was Sunday so the ship was closed; the guy let me in and said the bike was in the store room at the back.  So we headed off, the owner having locked the front door behind him ...

After a couple of flights of stairs and narrow twisty corridors I began to wonder whether I was about to be chopped up and left out with the bins on Monday!  In the end all was well and I bought the bike, which I still ride to work every day 5 years later.
