The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Reading this thread has made me feel pretty inferior, but here goes:

    • Peavey Encore 35w - First amp, second hand did the job for a couple of years, okay'ish clean sound, dirt not so good.
    • Trace Eliott Tramp 40w - pretty decent sound but we never bonded, sold it for a....
    • Peavey Bandit 80w Transtube, the first model. Damn good for a solid state and the transtube knob was effective. Sold it and bought a......
    • Trace Elliott 50w Speed Twin - Superb build and features but was just too dark voiced for my liking.
    • Peavey Classic30 - the swiss army knife of amps ?. Really good all rounder.
    • Laney LC30II. bought it with a 1x12" Laney Cab for sub £350. Stripped it, swapped out the speaker and refinished it it. Sounds damn good on it's own and roars with the cab.
and embarrassingly in the context of this thread, that's it really ;))
