SOLD: Moderne Replica - aged Cherry REVERSE AUCTION STYLE - £600

Handmade by me over the last year, although I have actually had the body cut to shape for about 5 years and never took it any further.  Its been completed for about 6 months, but I only got around to making plastics for it in the last few weeks and did a bit of final fettling this week.     Its now actually done!!

Spec:

• 2-piece mahogany body
• 3-piece mahogany neck with rosewood board, 2-way truss rod, ebony headplate
• Deep set full width neck tenon - PRS style neck join on a Gibson  
• Gotoh Tuners, Bridge and Tailpiece
• Gibson Bridge Humbucker.  8.5k. This came from the mid position on a 3 humbucker gibson.  Its been modded with a Alnico V magnet swap and a new nickel cover - leads have also been extended
• Bulldog  Neck Humbucker. 8.3k.  Also had a cover added and leads extended
• Weighs bang on 7lb 2 1/2oz
• Nut width - 43.5mm - wide flat C neck profile.  12" radius fretboard
• Comes with an explorer sized padded gig bag
• Finish - direct Cherry stain, thin skin sunken nitro,aged.

of all the Moderne's currently available, this is clearly the best and most affordable

there are 4 headstocks associated with the Moderne.   3 of the have terrible string angles on the headstock

this is the original 1958 patent

the source of this drawing is unknown, but its where I got the idea to use a V headstock.   But on the left you have the horrible headstock used on the 1980's "re-issues"  and ont he right you have the one used on the 2012 resissues.

except I wanted straighter string pull - so redesigned it a bit.

the other one you sometimes see is the regular Gibson  version, but its likely any moderne's with that headstock were made with left over parts, or complete fakes.   but it is the design Ibanez copied

 

In all honesty, I having nothing against the original headstock, just the string pull it gives.   I nearly went this way

Depends really. if you were a) massively famous, and b) promised to use it exclusively on every live or tv performance for the next five years, that may work.

Of course, I would also be telling everyone how tight you are for not paying.
