This kind of metal had mass appeal in the 2000s because it was fun and grooved basically like angry pop music. Metal hasn't really been mainstream in any of its subsequent forms - djent doesn't get mainstream coverage and there's too much screaming/growling in metal core for the same level of mass appeal. And again I own most of the Periphery, KSE, Trivium, Darkest Hour albums etc etc, I do like those genres but the fact is they're not as mainstream friendly as the 'bro' metal bands listed.
I saw POD last year and they were awesome live.
I saw them live the other week. It was so bad people were leaving. I'd have done the same if I wasn't reviewing the gig. Truly awful.
WTF is bro metal? I like most of the bands mentioned here to one extent or another. Lyrics are probably bottom of the list for me on "shit I care about" when listening to rock/metal.
I think it seems to be metal that definitely doesn't mention blood or dragons, to differentiate from both metal that definitely does mention blood and/or dragons, and metal where no-one can tell whether it mentions blood and/or dragons or not.
I listened to their most recent album at the weekend (... and now I know who Zach Myers, of PRS signature fame, is).
All quite pleasant, but nowhere near being any kind of metal. Which isn't a criticism, I just expected something a little heavier.
Their first two albums are heavier, but still aren't heavy enough to be classed as metal.
Amaryllis is an absolutely exceptional album, however.
But because the sound was so bad, there was absolutely ZERO energy and they don't really have any stage presence at all.
Oh and their Spinal Tap-esque stage props are laughable.
Don't get me wrong - I don't mind the odd trivium song on record (Boat Rudder Strange Mountain and In Waves are decent!) and was quite looking forward to seeing them live, but they were absolutely pitiful.
Their support, Heart of a Coward, were fucking AWESOME, however.

Never has the term "shit sandwich" been so apt.
Andrew WK is the sort of person there needs to be more of in the world. His music might not be the most life-affirming stuff you'll ever hear, but his motivational talks and Ask Andrew WK is awesome.

I wasn't disputing your point, just expressing my dislike for all three bands in a crass manner
